Romans 6:23 says, "For sin pays its wage -- death; but God's free gift is eternal
life in union with Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 5:8 tells us that
"God has shown us how much He loves us -- it was while we were still sinners that
Christ died for us!" We need to accept His offer of forgiveness because if we
refuse it, we must suffer the penalty for our own sins.
It is about Relationship,
not Religion
Jesus is
alive! This isn't about religion. Religion cannot save us. This is about
relationship, relationship with the true and living God. He is real! He's not
an abstract idea. Let Him come into your heart to live.
Jesus says in Revelation 3:20,
21, "Listen! I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears my voice and opens
the door, I will come into his house and eat with him, and he will eat with me. To
those who win the victory I will give the right to sit beside me on my throne, just as I
have been victorious and now sit by my Father on His throne." He's offering you
that opportunity right now to have eternal LIFE. Let Him into your life. Open
the door to your heart.
Tell Him that you realize you need
forgiveness. Mean it! Tell Him that you choose to trust Him as your own
Savior who died for you. Thank Him for forgiving you and giving you eternal
life.
If you don't feel sure of
yourself, you may want to use Psalm 51 (printed here) as your prayer:
"Be merciful to me, O
God,
because of your constant love.
Because of your great mercy wipe away my sins!
Wash away all my evil and make me clean from my sin!
I recognize my faults;
I am always conscious of my sins.
I have sinned against you -- only against you --
and done what you consider evil.
So you are right in judging me;
you are justified in condemning me.
I have been evil from the day I was born;
from the time I was conceived, I have been sinful.
Sincerity and truth are what you require;
fill my mind with your wisdom
Remove my sin, and I will be clean:
wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
Let me hear the sounds of joy and gladness;
and though you have crushed me and broken me,
I will be happy once again.
Close your eyes to my sins
and wipe out all my evil.
Create a pure heart in me, O God,
and put a new and loyal spirit in me.
Do not banish me from your presence;
do not take your Holy Spirit away from me.
Give me again the joy that comes from your salvation,
and make me willing to obey you.
Then I will teach sinners your commands,
and they will turn back to you.
Spare my life, O God, and save me,
and I will gladly proclaim your righteousness.
Help me to speak, Lord
and I will praise you.
You do not want sacrifices,
or I would offer them;
My sacrifice is a humble spirit, O God;
you will not reject a humble and repentant heart.
Thank you, God, for your saving grace.
Change my heart, O God,
and make me more like you.
In Jesus' name,
Amen
Please let me know if you prayed this prayer,
whether it was the first time you ever prayed sincerely for salvation or if you needed to
get your focus on God. I will pray for you and agree with you to our heavenly
Father.
